With what method do you blend your images?
I've tried out lots of different techniques yet, but still have not found the right one..

I like how the left-hand side has that lovely orange plume of clouds and on the right there's that rock ridge- I think it makes for an interesting composition. Lovely colors too!

Man I love the clouds :D
They just add another dimension and texture into this - the colours refract from the clouds and water in such different ways, but theyre beautiful to look at :aww:

Ohhhhh this is so lovely. I've been trying blurring water, but I'm new to photographry. I usually make too much light come in, >< Oh well, experimentation.
This is a gorgeous photo.

OK, so yeah everything dark is on the right of the image and everything light is on the left...but I don't particularly care.
The light is great, the colours are beatifully done and the movement of the water is spot on...Great image

I've been reading comments and I don't feel as though this is empty at all. It has good background and foreground interest. The colours a lone speak for themselve. The exposure is perfectly on time for the water movement and the composition is strong, I love it :)

why not capture this in one exposure though? it seems as though under such nominal light it is very possible especially with the 3 stop gnd.

Yeah I agree with aFeinPhoto-com, it's an awesome shot but its lacking impact, then again, I don't really think it needs it that much, it's all about the light and movement. Great timing and exposure time too, you captured that splash on the rocks brilliantly.

How often do you get a sunset worth shooting where you are?

Wow! I think that a wider angle would have been nicer though...

I can't wait till I get my 10 stop ND filter so I can take shots like this

you won't be able to take shots like this with a 10 stop

:iconsathoro:

and why is that?

:iconhougaard:

in bright sunlight the shortest exposure you'll achieve is about 15s. This was 1.6s with only one grad, under weak light. With a 10 stop attached it would have been about a 2 minute exposure

:iconsathoro:
Sathoro Featured By Owner Mar 25, 2009  Hobbyist Photographer
ok. but don't you think a 2 minute exposure would have looked just as good though, if not better?

The hardest thing to learn about using a 10 stop grad is when to leave it in the bag. It can really make some shots, and it can ruin others. In this case I think Hougaard got it right...the shot is all about the dynamism of the wave, a very long exposure would have had the sea like mercury and the foreground looking misty because of the water sweeping up and down the beach.
