Getting to the second half of the photo was like being punched in the stomach. Mankind has so many troubles among its own kind, why go out of our way to make problems with nature, too. *sigh* Gorgeous detail in the actual photography, of course.

"Main difference is 24-105mm vs 16-35mm"

I think the scene is also different which make the two shots very different. Looking at the bottom pic, no matter how much you zoom U should still see some cut trees.

It's in our nature to destroy. To bad. Why must most humans be blind to what is beautiful.

Oh, good grief, I thought the "contrasting" images were you asking an opinion on cropping or something (this was just looking at the thumbnail), but now that I see it full-size... I am appalled. Depressing. :depressed:

You had a great idea of how to expose the issue.
But WHY DID THAT HAPPEN?

The main difference is the lens? I'd say the main difference is some heavy logging is evident in the second one. There are some areas here in Oregon where you can see areas where they once clear cut, there will be a line of taller trees and next to it will be shorter trees or even no trees at all. Fortunately it is illegal to clear cut here now.

Main difference is not your lens mate... unfortunately is the stupid human nature... to destroy everything that breath and has life in it...

All living creatures are destructive. That's how they survive. But I have to agree that we human are a lot more destructive.

I say you should have gotten more of the top of the tree, but that's just my opinion. Generally, I still like the picture.
