Desert Storm by hougaard Desert Storm by hougaard
I'm like an old woman with wet panties... atmosphere...true color...atmosphere. I get stuck between influences. On the one hand I have Alex nail smacking me with a pole about true color and on the other hand I have Andy Mumford telling me that it's art and I may create what I want... I'm starting to slowly lean towards a more arty look. If the light is right then I won't do much, but with a lot of images like this one I'll fiddle around with the color for more impact.

My advise, don't listen to either of them! They are both right and both wrong, just 2 different ways of doing things. Realism and "artism" come together to create a photograph and you are the creator/artist of the piece so your judgement is what's important. Having seen your style and processing develop over time I think you are heading in the right direction and the result is somewhere inbetween the extremes which you mention. On the one hand your overprocessing of old and on the other your more recent quest for authenticity.
I don't like overdone landscapes but am guilty of it myself sometimes and I also don't want to look at a "straight" image all the time. Photographers have always enhanced their work one way or another be it through choice of film stock or painstaking darkroom/print making work. Even adding a polariser to the lens is changing the way we would see a scene is it not?
Anyhow, I enjoyed reading your frustrated comments, made me laugh.

that's a hilarious first line on the artist's comments lolz. two other great artists smacking you with poles huh, be yourself! it's been working fine all this time. ;) oh, great composition btw, but then again as you said, it's been done so much already. :)

I agree! Reality is overrated! I love the bright colors and surreal look of this. It's gorgeous!

You need to do what you like, and not worry about what others say. How else will you learn what is important to you? By the way this is a beautiful shot.

I think the two schools of "pure art" vs "reality" are both well lived. It depends on the artist and the audience. Actually, sometimes the audience matters more. Surreal is in between and most of your wokr, in my opinion, falls into that category. And guess what, people love it. You are stuck between influence and so are we as spectators of your work.
Beautiful colors and just amazing work as always.

By the way...what exactly did you mean with that "old woman with wet panties" analogy at the beginning. I'm curious what two things this old woman is torn between? Take 'em off - Keep 'em on - Take 'em off.
Is this some Sarf African thing?

:D

Hope you're good, and while I love these reworks, I'd prefer to see some new stuff you lazy-arsed git. Get out there and take some new pictures ;-)
