There is a 700 hectare mud pan in the Southern Region of Namibia that turns into an endless stand of lilies after the first heavy summer rains. The lilies germinate, grow and die in less than 10 days and hundreds of thousands of elephant beetles appear and dissapear with them. There hasn't been much scientific study of this unbelievable natural phenomenon, but something like this dissapears quite easily in Namibia's endless variety of mindboggling natural anomalies.
