Artist's Comments

My subconscious has been waking me up every morning on 30 minute intervals around sunrise, in the very optimistic hope of fog/mist.

This morning wasn't any different, I drifted into a state of conscious sleep, thought to myself it's time to look out the window, I opened my eyes(barely), pulled the curtain away and I saw the edge of our pool but I couldn't see the other side!!!!!woohoo. Got on my bike, went to the forest. I wanted to get to the higher, wetter and more natural parts of the forest with Oak trees, moss and ferns. But when I was half way up the sun cast it's light through the trees and I saw the fog was very quickly thinning out and dissapearing....This is the best I could get.

Three vertical shots [][][]
Processed a lot as explained in my tutorial [link] , I used 3 layers to process the ground, top left, and top ride sides separately.

BTW...before you say it Adriaan, I also hate that blown-out highlight above the road.

Sometimes a blown-out highlight is necessary to get the shot (unless it's HDR)... I'm way too anal about it myself! I have a photo where the sky is blown out around some trees, and matters were improved by blurring the edges of the highlight against the trees a little. It looked much less unnatural and 'digital'.

Personally I think this photo looks lovely - very natural-looking photo, subtle.

I push when it says, "Pull." Not because I want to go against the grain or be rebellious, I'm just a fuckin' idiot.
