Looks like it was taken somewhere in the Southwestern USA.
The colors are awesome, the overall red tint does wonders for the image. :D

i like the composition as its not conventional...the colours are great...my only criticism is whats going on around the sun....

Wow! Great picture Hougaard! Intersing foreground and awesome middleground. Great job on this. Has to be one of my favorites from yours up to date. I prefer images you do like this.

Beautiful light, not your best though :)

I wanted the bright red lens flare look to go with the red rocks. And I think it adds some interest to the color-less sky. I did my absolute best to control the highlight and in the end that's the look I settled for. If I darken that spot then the colors clip really badly and it looks very unnatural.

i understand what you mean...and obviously its what you get if you shoot directly at a sun like this without any cloud cover....the flare doesnt bother me..or the rays its more the 'blob' (for want of a better word) that you get over the top of the sun.....but this is a personal taste thing hougaard
:iconhougaard:
I know completely what you mean and it bothers me too. It's one of those things that are affected by the weather from day to day, where a single cloud can make the difference. In the more populated areas that blob is more subtle because of pollution blocking out a lot of the light low when the sun is that low, but as you can see in this shot, there's barely anything for 400km. I did get that extra dark exposure for the highlight, but it doesn't really help.

I really like the compo and the over-all exposure in this frame is spot on. However, the rocks in the foreground appear to be over-sharpened and it doesn't look natural in my opinion.
:iconsassaputzin:
yep i know i have bracketed shots of similar subjects between about 10 stops but could never get it to look right, you've just gotta liove with it if you want a shot like this........obviously when you get your 5d mk2 this will all be irrelevant :D

:D shouldn't be more than 10 days
