I am very guilty of not interacting with all the wonderful people on this site as I used to in the good old days. It is however impossible to try and make it in the professional world and keep your profiles on so many different communities alive. I am very active on facebook and I post all my recent travels, photos and everythings there. If you ever have any questions regarding specific photos or just photography in general then I am always happy to help out!

So join my facebook page - www.facebook.com/pages/Hougaar…

When I joined DA about 4 years ago, there were barely any South African landscapes on here. With time more and more was added of all the typical iconic places, but there's very little work of Kwa Zulu Natal on here. There's a deviant doing some great work of that area's amazing landscapes and his portfolio is greatly under appreciated. So go check out the work of :iconcarlosthe:!

I have chosen a lucky number between 475-500 and that number person to like my facebook page will get a free print of their choice. It's at 452 now, so the lucky number is just around the corner. You have to prove your number with a screen shot that shows the amount of likes on the page after you have liked it.

In the unlikely event that people unlike and like it so frantically that I get the same number more than once, the prize will go the first person to show me the number. Just mail me your screenshot to hougaard@hougaardmalan.com

I tried to keep up with comments on images, but if I leave it for just a few days it quickly goes into hundreds and I just can't reply to all of those. I do read every single comment and reply to anything that warrants more than a thank you.

I have chosen a lucky number between 475-500 and that number person to join my facebook page wins a free print, so get it to 500 asap! I will announce the lucky number once the group reaches 500 (yes you can leave and rejoin, you need a screen shot to claim your prize!)

Thanks for all the likes so far, but I need many more. I will feature the likers in my next journal :) - www.facebook.com/pages/Hougaar…

I'll be giving a free print to a liker between 475-500. I've chosen a number so if you're one of those 25, get a screen capture of the page that shows you've liked it and the current number of likers. If you're the winning number you get a free signed A2 canvas print of any of my photos! Because :iconalex37: is such a smartass I've told him the lucky number so he can't participate.

I will also be running a 2 for 1 print sale on my website throughout the month of November. I will post the USD and EURO prices for various sizes on the 1st of November. If you like the sound of this and you'd like to have a look at what's available then head over to my website. Read some details on the print page and then go explore the gallery to see what you'd like! - www.hougaardmalan.com/

Merry and happy this and that and everything to everyone :) This year is going to be a good one.

I enter it on the brink of 300000 pageviews and 1.5 million deviation views. I've completely lost my obsession with DA stats (luckily), but it's cool to reach the round numbers!

What am I doing this year? Lots of travelling, hosting lots of workshops, hiking a lot more and hopefully Canon releases the new 5D and 1Ds IV. My main goal for the year is to buy a decent 4x4. Southern Africa has a lot to offer and the menu increases ten fold if you have a decent 4x4.

Image wise I have certain goals. I can list the South African landscapes, but it won't mean much to the average foreigner so it's just a waste of time. My to priority is images of the Drakensberg. Dramatic stuff from below and above the escarpment and images with snow. I've got 18 days of workhops to host in Namibia during April. Two group workshops and one private one on one tour of some of the iconic spots. I'm leaving in 3 weeks for a 4 week tour.

I want to get my prints online somewhere and start selling actions on my blog, but I'll only get time for that later in the year.

I've got lots of business and trips lined up and no serious problems stalling me. Everything is good to go for 2011 and it looks very promising. I hope everyone else has an equally awesome year ahead :)

To my new followers. I do read every comment, but I simply can't reply to every single one. I try to answer all questions and usually only empty my inbox once every 2 months. I appreciate all support and friends I get here on DA

Some good stuff from 2010

I left home last Sunday and I'm now about 1500km Eastwards up the coast at Hole in the Wall. It's probably South Africa's 2nd most prominent coastal icon after Table Mountain. It's a lone standing cliff in the ocean with a massive tunnel through the middle. It's at the mouth of a river, surrounded by sand beaches, pebble beaches, rock ledges, yellow wood forests and rolling green hills covered in aloes.

I've just unpacked and settled in and I'm here until Friday so I've got 9 twilight shoots here! :D:D:D

Enjoy the last working month of the year!

Hi DA :)

I did a review of super ND filters, for those who are interested - www.hougaardmalan.com/blog/?ca…

I hope everyone is having an awesome time and that all the photographers are getting some real keepers. As you can see by submissions, I'm at home in the cape for the winter. My wisdom teeth were removed on Friday, so I've got a mouth full of stitches and I'm high on painkillers :D

I got a Zeiss distagon 18mm. Loving it.

a Massive thank you to :iconnfilipevs: for my 2nd DD on  He has some compelling black and white stuff so head on over and check it out!

I'm hitting the wild coast, Southern Drakensberg and great Drakensberg in October-November, but right now I'm preparing for about a month's worth of workshops I'm hosting in the Cape.

Keep on keeping on DA :)

Mid winter and cloudless skies for almost two weeks :fork: Some of the Oak trees in town still have green leaves. The weather is officialy fucked.

I want to take my big stopper and 617 for a test drive and I can't :frustrated:

I guess I was overestimating myself when I said that I would do a tutorial like this every month. This one took about 2 days, so I'll make it a bi-monthly thing.

About 5 weeks and 12000km later I'm finally home...for a long enough time get my blog back on track, process and upload some images and talk some good ol nonsense on DA.

Random stuff... I got a Lee big stopper 10 stop nd last week. Can't wait to try it out..but the weather here keeps fluctuating between blue skies and gray skies.

I've sold my Mamiya 645 system and I'm getting a Linhof Technorama 617s with 90mm lens this coming week! :D The door to a whole new world of landscape photography.

Not a full blog post...but a hint of images and articles to come :) www.hougaardmalan.com/blog/?ca… All subscription issues have been sorted out, so please subscribe!

I got back from Namibia Monday morning, caught up on basic admin and processing and I'm off there again tomorrow. Richtersveld NP to be more exact. I deleted most comments from my inbox, trying to answer all (sensible) questions I can.

Namibia blog post and more images will have to wait till next week. The film images are of course also on their way some time. I'm in the process of selling my 645 to buy a 617 :D

I didn't know him personally, but we did communicate every now and then about a passion we shared. He was a great contributor to this community and I hope that his presence here will forever be remembered in his images that are still in the galleries.

Check out my blog article on my first experiences with film.... www.hougaardmalan.com/blog/

One of South Africa's top wildlife photographers commented and said "There was something honest about film, something authentic that has been lost and that I miss" . Words that sum it up perfectly for me.

Digital photography is like a politician ;)

Bring on the discussion!

I'm off to Namibia on Saturday for about 10 days. As plans are at the moment I intend to spend all the time at Sossusvlei, Namib's holy grail of landscape photography.
